TFO has Successful November '19 Trip

In November, four volunteers and Tools for Opportunity president Gene Pedersen traveled to the village of El Tamarindo, La Union, El Salvador to help train 18 aspiring woodworkers. Working in several groups, they built tables and benches for a school. Our trainers introduced new tools and work methods to help their Salvadoran counterparts work more efficiently and produce better items. After 2 1/2 days of training, the trainees signed the TFO contracts promising to continue using their skills to benefit their communities. Each woodworker then received a collection of new tools to help them establish and further their business. Additional tools were provided to the school that hosted us to help them establish a training curriculum of their own.

The Tools for Opportunity crew then had two days to enjoy the rich culture and beauty  of El Salvador, including visiting cathedrals, a mountaintop coffee plantation, seeing the release of 300 newborn sea turtles, and more. Each of our travelers, some of whom are avid woodworkers, others who have no woodworking experience at all, reported an immensely rewarding trip. You can join us next time! Watch for details coming soon on dates.
